A winery in Salento with three souls to discover
In the heart of Salento, Masseria Surani expresses itself through three different yet complementary places. Manduria, Lizzano and Guagnano hold landscapes, terroirs and visions that are reflected in the wines and experiences.
One soul, made of light, earth and hospitality.
Tenuta Eméra
In Lizzano, Tenuta Eméra stretches across 52 hectares and reveals the brightest, most Mediterranean side of the project. The underground winery, thermally insulated and covered by a large garden roof, was born from an idea of harmony with the landscape and a concrete commitment to resources. The recovery of rainwater and irrigation water, together with a papyrus-based phytoremediation system, supports the work of the winery with a vision of balance.
All around, a path through aromatic herbs, vegetable gardens and bush-trained Primitivo vineyards leads to the ancient masseria, now restored in respect of tradition and open to hospitality.
Here, among looser, windswept and rocky soils, fresh, immediate and intensely expressive wines come to life.
Cantina Moros
In Guagnano, Cantina Moros extends over 1.2 hectares and preserves one of the most authentic expressions of Salento. A small boutique winery and a symbol of Salice Salentino, it was created through the conservative restoration of a 1950s Apulian factory and today keeps intact the charm of a place where wine history and industrial architecture continue to speak to one another.
We are among spaces that once spoke of work and departures, close to the railway station from which wine travelled towards other lands. Today, the concrete fermenters, the old underground tanks transformed into a barrel cellar and meeting room, and the sober materiality of the spaces all tell of a memory that remains alive, weaving together art and wine.
The dark, clay-rich soil gives life to the outstanding cru produced here: Salice Salentino.
Tenuta Espéra
In Manduria stands Tenuta Espéra, with its 55 hectares: the estate where the Masseria Surani project first began. Here, the winery rises beside the historic early twentieth-century farmhouse and combines technical precision with constant care in every stage of vinification.
The maturation of the red wines takes place in Slavonian oak barrels, while the Primitivo Riserva completes its journey in tonneaux.
All around, red, clay-rich and iron-rich soils give life to full-bodied, aromatic and elegant wines, expressing the character of Manduria with depth.
